I have lots of photos of the inside of a Japanese kaleidoscope I own that just beg to be mucked around with making images!
Very quick, very sloppy painting-drawing that I scanned in stages. Plant to print the original out to put alongside the entirely inaccurate cephalopod I shoved in it.
There’s some more drawings of the pair of Somerset ammonites in limestone I own, that I intend to poke with Photoshop, but it’s late now. Just these for today.
And the last one, before I head to bed myself.
It’s a shame how resolved pieces become too “mannered” and lose the verve of more carefree studies.
( Edit: Sorted out the colour mode. Oops!)
Added some darker areas, and touches of white. Not quite the look I was going for, but it was fun practice.
First scan of this one.
Things start to come together when I get my paints out. (I think this is a hint to paint more, and I must remember it!)
Just interesting from a process perspective. This one probably took the longest because what on earth was I doing with those colours? I made a crazy number of thumbnails for the geothermal paintings, killed the geyser, and still wasn’t happy with the outcome. It’s a theme I’d like to explore more.
Because I have over a thousand photos of Rotorua, Wai-o-Tapu, Waimangu, Te Puia, and Whakarewarewa.
Last one - and this is the one my icon’s taken from.
